Augusta Savage
1892-1962
Augusta Savage was a pioneer and the first African American person to be in the World's Fair in 1939. She was a sculpture and teacher, and opened the first museum of African American art in Harlem. She was vital to the Harlem Renaisance, where she fostered and mentored artists such as Jacob Lawrence and Aaron Douglas.
